Entrance table by shanti1971 Entrance table by shanti1971
this is an example of the furniture i make to fund my dreams of doing art full time , they represent a subtle compromise but still contain alot of my connection to nature . I enjoyed making this piece as i was playing with the inorganic metal being used and portrayed in an organic manner and the wooden element - the drawer being very square and almost inorganic . The handle for the drawer is a directly cast bronze branch .

Lovely piece - and very nicely photographed: I like the natural lighting and the long shadow cast on the wall. The intricate, organic tangle of the table looks very natural, and I especially like the way the wooden drawer is incorporated, seeming effortlessly suspended, as though the table grew around it!

nice! I like that the glass top is not square. Good job on treating the whole table as one piece!

Yeah , I kind of imagined the top as being a cut away of a tree , was a bit restricted by my form on the back as the piece was never designed to be free standing . You got some great things happening with your metalwork I see , its a work of passion forging , the power is the bonus . Thanks for the positive comment ..

This little table is absolutely beautiful!

Well done in getting it to look alive and not static. I find that difficult when trying to branch metal out into trees and organic shapes.

Awesome! <3

I might be schizophrenic, but at least I have eachother.- sometimes we can relate . Thanks for the great commenst , I think a combination of bends works well together to create natural harmony , nature isn't that predictable and ' perfect ' all the time , chaos is always present

oh my god, this is amazing! I've really wanted to make some sort of furnature as well, mainly tables of book shelves. I just need to have the space to do it. This is gorgeous! How did you make the branch-legs?

Hello , glad you like the peice , the legs I made by forging and hammering , because they are quite big ( 50mm wide at base ) I used 16mm uprights which I forged into the branches , I joined four of them at the base and worked them together , sometimes using small bits of plate , then grinder , more bashing etc and slowly they came to life . Had a look at your work - I like the organic feel , nice to connect ..

:] Very cool. so the legs are iron? I've only worked with steel. I really want to try forging more, I like the idea that you don't need to be a control freak about hammering the crap out of it. Truly a wonderful piece, very inspiring :]

steel , the cheap stuff from the metal shop , iron is very hard to come by and almost impossible here in South Africa . I also enjoy not being a control freak , if you make a mistake you can always bash better , there is a saying - if you cant fix it with a hammer you have an electrical problem . Forging I enjoy , it is hard sometimes and you feel it on your body but I like that - its a good work out and something beautiful often appears from that workout - beats a gym . Thank you for the lovley words , keep well
